Galveston County Juvenile Justice Department aims to provide fair hearing procedures through traditional judicial procedures. The Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center is a maximum-security facility with inmates ranging from low level offenders to higher level offenders. Armed with mace and trained to use physical force when needed, correctional officers are ready to protect themselves as well as other inmates from violence.

Visitation at Galveston County Juvenile Justice Center

Visitation schedules will be made available no later than the second day of detention and given to Parents/Guardians. Parents can call to request to speak with the intake Officer on duty in respect to the visitation schedule. Parents, guardians and approved visitors are the only ones allowed to visit. The hours of visitation are conducted from 6:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. There will be a limit of two visitors in the visitation area at any time. Residents will only be allowed a total of thirty (30) minutes for visitation. Visitation time can be divided between visitors if more than two approved visitors arrive at the same time. Approved visitors much provide a valid photo ID prior to entry into the facility. Items that are not allowed into the visitation area are:

Smoking, eating and delivery of contraband anytime during a visit is prohibited. If a visitor fails to comply with any of the regulations will result in immediate termination of visitation rights. Parents and/or guardians are the only ones allowed to visit and permission must be granted by the Deputy Directors-Detention or Detention Superintendent for someone other than parents or guardians who wish to visit. Please contact (409) 770-5900 as resident’s attorneys are permitted to visit anytime during their duration of stay.

Divorced parents must provide legal custody documents to obtain visitation. Parents with legal custody are provided with the first visit. It is upon the discretion of the Intake Officer on duty to allow the second parent to visit if he or she appears later. Mostly this depends on time available during visitation times. It is best and advisable if both parents agree to see the child together or split the visitation time equally between them.
